The chief object of interest in Manorhamilton is the ruined baronial mansion built in 1638 by Sir Fredrick Hamilton. There is now a Heritage Centre in the grounds of the old castle. Prior to Fredrick Hamilton being granted substantial tract of land here the area was called Clonmullen or Cluain Maoain which means "the hillside meadow".
